Tyson Fury 'serious' with offer to Anthony Joshua ahead of Oleksandr Usyk rematch

Tyson Fury's head trainer Sugarhill Steward has insisted that the heavyweight champions' offer to train Anthony Joshua for his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk is 100 per cent genuine.

AJ lost his three heavyweight belts to Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September, shattering hopes of a unification bout between the two Brits.

The pair will now go toe-to-toe in a rematch next year, which boxing fans are hoping will be the final hurdle before a unification bout for Fury.

While a unification bout could take place against either Usyk or AJ, it's clear that Fury is keen on facing off against his compatriot.

So much so, that Fury's offer to train Joshua for the bout is built around wanting that fight to take place, Steward has explained.

"We are 100 percent serious about helping Joshua in camp. We want him to defeat Usyk, for a start, because we want to see Fury against Joshua, and so do all the fans of boxing in the world," he told TalkSport.

"It is not a ruse or a joke, we would happily help Joshua because he is capable of beating Usyk in the rematch, and this is nothing new. In the old days, all boxers travelled to different gyms for assistance.

"This is a sport, and we have to think of it as a sport. Never forget that when heavyweight boxing is strong, the whole of boxing is strong.

"The biggest fight in the sport is Fury versus Joshua, and we all know what that would do for the sport with the two of them fighting for the undisputed crown. It couldn't be bigger."

Fury is set to be back in action in March against Dillian Whyte, with the WBC ordering a fight against the mandatory challenger.
