Tyson Fury's three-fight plan for 2022 confirmed ahead of Joshua vs Usyk rematch

Tyson Fury has big plans for 2022 as he seeks three tests - but it could then signal the end of the Gypsy King's illustrious career.

Fury 's next opponent is still yet to be determined after the WBC elected not to name Dillian Whyte as a mandatory challenger.

His fellow Brit remains a potential opponent for a fight in early 2022, which will widely be seen as a placeholder for a unification fight to occur.

With Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk set for a rematch, likely to occur in the spring, Fury will await the winner - with a unification bout potentially occurring in the summer, with a rematch late next year.

Those plans have been confirmed by Fury's promoter, Bob Arum, speaking to TalkSport : "And he wants to do at least three fights in 2022, hopefully that is how it will roll out and Fury is ready to fight anybody.

"I really believe that Fury is the pre-eminent heavyweight in the world and there is nobody out there that he would be reluctant to fight."

Arum doesn't believe that Joshua will step-aside to allow Usyk to face Fury immediately, something which has been a significant topic of conversation this week, but the significance of a three-fight plan for 2022 may have already been indicated by Fury's previous comments.

Earlier this year, Fury himself outlined his plans for his upcoming fights - starting with Deontay Wilder, who he swiftly wiped aside.

Fury had commented that he wanted to fight Dillian Whyte in December, which won't go ahead, before naming Anthony Joshua as a unification opponent - with two fights against his fellow Brit, which could now be replaced with Oleksandr Usyk.

Beyond that, another clash with former rival Derek Chisora is something Fury wants to see happen - with his comments outlining five fights, including October's victory against Wilder.

If Fury is indeed still sticking by that approach, then 2022 could well be the penultimate year of his career at the top - with one final opponent in 2023, potentially Chisora given his comments, bringing an end to his illustrious history in boxing.

A further return to the ring later down the line or another appearance in the WWE may be on the cards later down the line but it's clear we're in the twilight years of Fury's career.
