Tyson Fury's next opponent uncertain as Dillian Whyte 'devastated' by injury

Tyson Fury's next opponent is up in the air after Dillian Whyte's clash with Otto Wallin next weekend was called off, leaving the Brit 'devastated'.

Whyte was due to face Wallin in London on October 30th and victory would have cemented his spot as the WBC's mandatory challenger, with it expected the governing body would order a fight with Fury to take place.

However, a shoulder injury has forced Whyte to withdraw from his upcoming bout and means his long wait for a clash with Fury will be extended.

Whyte has already waited over 600 days for his title shot and that wait will only be extended following his injury and cancellation of his upcoming bout.

"I am devastated as I had a great camp, was in great shape, and had great sparring," Whyte told Sky Sports.

"I was looking forward to knocking Wallin out and would have done so in the first half of the fight. I am devastated about not being able to fight on October 30 but I want to thank everyone for all of their support."

It remains to be seen what the WBC will order moving forward but Wallin's promoter, Dmitriy Salita, is hopeful a rematch will be scheduled.

"It's very disappointing. If it is an injury, then he should heal, and they should reschedule this event. That would be the fair thing to do.

"It would not be fair to the sport of boxing for Dillian Whyte to have an injury, whatever it is, and as a result of that, to be able to be mandated to fight Fury. The WBC will pass what I feel is an important decision, which should set things right."

Full details on Whyte's injury, including the amount of time he will be sidelined for, has not been revealed.
