Tyson Fury's brilliant message to Nottingham Forest fan Leigh Wood after stunning WBA title win

World heavyweight king Tyson Fury showered Leigh Wood with praise after he ripped the WBA crown from defending champion Xu Can.

The Nottingham featherweight dethroned his rival with a stunning display as he secured an impressive 12th round stoppage.

Wood had floored Can in the final minute and while the fighter dubbed the Monster beat the 10 count, he had no answer for the subsequent barrage that followed.

Referee Marcus McDonnell then stepped in to stop the contest leaving an emotional Wood in tears after he was crowned the new champion.

Reigning WBC title-holder Fury said he was impressed by what he witnessed and also paid tribute to his trainer Ben Davison who devised a brilliant game plan to nullify Can's threat.

"What a win for Leigh Wood," he said.

"It was an absolutely fantastic performance.

"I had him winning by about five rounds easy. It was a great, great, performance and a great win.

"Well done guys and congratulations Ben and Leigh. Unbelievable."
