Tyson Fury's boozy lay-off in Georgia airport as flight home was diverted

Tyson Fury's flight home from Las Vegas was diverted via Georgia - and he took full advantage by sinking a few beers.

Fury had an after party on Saturday night in Hakkasan nightclub following his stunning win over Deontay Wilder .

He flew home as planned on Monday morning - but the flight took 24 hours after a thunderstorm played havoc with their journey.

And so Fury and his team passed the time in a fitting manner, by continuing their celebrations in the airport bar.

"We left Monday morning but it took 24 hours to get back," Fury's gym-mate Isaac Lowe told Sky Sports .

"We had to fly to Georgia, then there was a thunderstorm which delayed the plane. We were knackered... we had a few beers."

Fury finally landed in Manchester on Tuesday morning where he was given a hero's welcome by hundreds of fans.

It was a far cry from his return to the UK in 2015 after his win over Wladimir Klitschko when he was something of a pariah due to his homophobic and sexist views.

But now Fury is the favourite to be crowned Sports Personality of the Year after becoming a two-time heavyweight world champion.

He will likely first have to overcome Wilder in a rematch however after the American signalled his intention to trigger the clause in his contract.

That would put an end to Fury's hopes - at least for now - of a domestic showdown with Anthony Joshua , despite Fury's promoter Frank Warren hoping he could pay Wilder to step aside.

"It would be expensive - but who knows? The only way you find it is if you try," Warren told The Daily Telegraph.

"He's made some stupid statements, I think. I hoped he'd take the defeat as I think he should have done - with grace.

"All that nonsense about the (ring walk) costume (weighing him down) was garbage."
