Tyson Fury praises 'fantastic' staff at Alder Hey after birth of baby girl

Tyson Fury has praised the 'fantastic' staff at Alder Hey Children's hospital after his newborn baby daughter was placed into intensive care.

The heavyweight boxer's wife, Paris, gave birth to the couple's sixth child, Athena, on Sunday in Alder Hey Children's Hospital in West Derby.

The proud parents asked fans to pray for Baby Athena when her birth was announced yesterday, as she was rushed into intensive care and put on a ventilator.

He wrote: "Please can everyone pray for my baby girl who was born this morning. Athena Fury born 8/8/21. Thanks. God is great."

Fury has since revealed his daughter is now doing 'a lot better' as he thanked staff at the hospital for their work.

He said: "Baby Athena is doing a lot better and off the ventilator. She’s just lovely and I want to do what I can do to help and thank the team here! Ronald McDonald House Charities UK Liverpool."

Now, the boxer has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the children's hospital.

In a video posted on social media to spread the word about his fundraising, he said: "I'm just here with my dad at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool. They do a fantastic job on a daily basis.

"We have two WBC belts here that I'm going to sign personally, we're going to put them up for charity to raise some money for the hospital, for the good jobs they do an a daily basis.

"Whoever wins, I'll pick a winner at random, I will do a personal meet and greet to whoever wins these belts and I'll personally sign them to you as well."

His dad, John, added: "We can't do without these people, they are saving lives on a daily basis.

"I've been here now for a couple of days and I've seen first hand what these people are going through"

Within the first three hours of the fundraiser going live, Fury has raised more than £16,000.

Fury said: "Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me."

The couple have been married since 2009 and are parents to daughters Venezuela, 11, and three-year-old Valencia Amber and sons Prince John James, eight, Prince Tyson II, four and Prince Adonis, one.
