Tyson Fury offers verdict on Deontay Wilder's corner throwing in the towel

Tyson Fury has backed the decision made by Deontay Wilder's corner to throw in the towel when he stopped the American in February.

The Gypsy King dominated his opponent from the first bell en route to victory at the MGM in Las Vegas.

Wilder had been knocked down several times before Mark Breland threw in the towel in the seventh round.

The decision was criticised by the Bronze Bomber, but Fury has claimed Breland deserves a pay rise for his decision.

"Yeah, to be honest with you," he said on Behind The Gloves when asked whether Wilder's corner made the right call.

"The fighters are there to fight. We are warriors and we fight on until we die basically and that's why there have been people die because they're too brave for their own good.

"But it is up to the corner - that's what you pay them for. To look after your interests that you can't see at the time.

"I believe they left him in too long anyway, I believe that something severely bad wold've happened to him if they'd left him in. He was going down the same kind of road as these fighters that have had brain damage.

"He couldn't protect himself. He didn't win a round, he didn't win a second of a round. He was getting badly injured, there was a bad swelling on the top of his head, the side of his jaw. I'm not sure what was going on.

"I think Mark Breland, never mind sacking or slagging, I think they need to give him a pay rise because without Mark Breland there wouldn't have been a fair fight. He'd have been retired from boxing."
