Tyson Fury "not yet in pound-for-pound list" despite win over Deontay Wilder

Tyson Fury's win over Deontay Wilder has propelled the heavyweight into many people's pound-for-pound list - but not George Groves'.

Fury became world champion for the second time last Saturday with a stunning victory over Deontay Wilder .

That followed his upset win over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 before Fury descended into a near three-year drink and drug-fuelled depression.

The 31-year-old has now held all four heavyweight belts - but Groves wants to see more before comparing him to the likes of Canelo Alvarez and Vasyl Lomachenko.

"I wouldn't put him high up in the pound-for-pound list yet," he told After The Bell.

"He has risen to the occasion but a pound-for-pound fighter for me is one who continually performs and he has looked flat at times.

"He's not a Canelo or a Lomachenko who have built up a bank of high profile fights against seasoned champions.

"But going to Germany and beating Klitschko when noone thought he would do it is a standout result from a British fighter and Saturday night was definitely a standout result.

"But he needs to rack up a few more wins and if the Anthony Joshua fight can be made, or even if he fights another highly-ranked contender, then I'd start to throw him in the pound-for-pound list."

Fury looks set to have to wait for an undisputed fight with fellow countryman Joshua after Wilder signalled his intention to trigger the rematch clause in his contract.

The trilogy fight is set to take place before mid-July while Joshua will defend his three world titles against Kubrat Pulev on June 20.

And Groves believes Fury has the beating of his fellow Briton should the meet down the line.

"I think Fury beats him," he added. "I think he'll look to box him on the front foot.

"Anyone who wants to stick and move against Joshua will struggle; Joseph Parker struggled with that.

"He's slightly taller which is something both men have to contend with but he's coming off the back of beating Wilder who is a big guy.

"Ii make Fury the favourite in that fight, I think he beats Joshua."
