Tyson Fury next fight: Trainer Ben Davison tips Gypsy King to fight Anthony Joshua in 2019

Tyson Fury is more likely to fight Anthony Joshua in 2019 than Deontay Wilder, according to trainer Ben Davison.

Talks for a rematch between the Gypsy King and WBC world heavyweight champions Deontay Wilder cooled when the Brit signed a television deal with ESPN.

The ‘big three’ are now all tied up with fights against other opponents: Wilder facing his mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale, Fury taking on Tom Schwarz and Joshua defending his titles against Jarrell Miller.

And Davison now believes an all-British affair is more likely before the end of the year once Fury beats Schwarz.

“Tyson’s shown that he will always step up to the mark and take the risk. Who else has done that out of those two (Wilder and Joshua)? Nobody,” Davison told iFL TV.

“When you discuss with (Wilder’s team) about coming to us, the conversation goes dead. But hopefully, we can get those fights made.

“At the end of the day, they were trying to negotiate with Wilder’s team, it didn’t look like we were going to be able to get them on our platform right away so we couldn’t afford to sit still and we had to get something done.

“I think potentially there could be more of a chance, don’t hold me to it, of Tyson and Joshua at the end of the year.”

Davison has also shed light on the decision to face little-known Schwarz, after widespread disappointment from fans, insisting the preference to continue fighting larger heavyweights to avoid “the adjustment of somebody big to somebody small, to have to go back to somebody big.”
