It proved to be another memorable year for Tyson Fury in 2021 as he confirmed his place at the top of boxing’s heavyweight division.
The Gypsy King retained his WBC crown in spectacular fashion, completing his trilogy with Deontay Wilder with an 11th round knockout in Las Vegas.
All eyes are now on what will be in store for him in 2022, with Dillian Whyte up next after his challenge was ordered by the WBC, while Fury will be looking at a unification bout against the winner of Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk later in the year.
Whatever lies in store for Fury, he’ll be set for some more big pay days, having taken his earnings to new level this year.
The 33-year-old is reported to have a net worth of between £80m and £120m following his latest win over Wilder, although the figure could in fact be higher.
Fury earned £7.8m after drawing with Wilder in their first bout in 2018, which was the catalyst for him to sign a huge £80m five-fight deal with ESPN.
The first fight in that deal saw Fury make £10m as he beat Tom Schwarz, earning a second-round stoppage against the German, before taking a further £12m for his win against Otto Wallin – a fight which threatened to go horribly wrong after Fury suffered a nasty cut above his eye.
Those wins set him up for a massive pay day as he faced Wilder in a rematch in 2020, with the Gypsy King earning £30m for his seventh-round stoppage.
And the final fight in the trilogy saw Fury take home another huge pay packet, with reports suggesting he earned around £13m for knocking Wilder out, while the amount is said to total around £22m elsewhere.
Fury has of course pursued other interests outside of the ring, with his 2019 appearance in the WWE reportedly earning him £11.9m, while his autobiography, Behind the Mask, became the number one bestseller on Amazon within 24 hours of its release in November 2019.
His deal with ESPN still has one fight remaining on it, and with Whyte looking set to be up next, it remains to be seen what big-money deals might be in store thereafter for Fury.
