Tyson Fury is a good talker but Dillian Whyte fight talk is pure fantasy

We can expect plenty more noise where this week’s bombast came from as Tyson Fury touches down for the American leg of his camp ahead of the trilogy bout with Deontay Wilder.

Fury has outlined a five-fight countdown to retirement, including a double-header with Anthony Joshua as well as beatings for Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora.

Wilder has boasted of sending sparring partners to the canvas as this version of himself prepares to erase the stain of the loss he suffered last time.

This is all part of the show, the pre-fight hot air that bears little relation to reality.

This is a heavyweight contest in which both fighters are subject to the laws of the boxing jungle. They are big men with knockout power who in two fights have had each other over.

You can make a case for each and I will nearer the date. Suffice is to say what we are hearing now is all about selling the fight, engaging fans and building a pay-per-view audience.

Fury needs no encouragement to talk. Whenever he speaks he creates interest. He is a promoter’s dream.

We can discount his five-fight sequence, or even talk of retirement. Plans rarely unfold as you imagine.

The idea of taking a fight against Whyte in the UK before Christmas is pure fantasy.

Fighters want the big purses and that takes time to put together. Fury knows that. Every fight involving Fury is ppv. And that is a big production.

It would be some collision. Whyte likes to throw big shots and will fancy his chances. It wouldn’t be a pushover for Fury. But it won’t be this side of Christmas.

Besides he has to get through Wilder first. Wilder is talking a good game, fitter, faster, stronger, etc. Of course he is, but the truth is nobody knows.

The testimony of his new trainer is of no use to us. Malik Scott is just an echo chamber boosting his own man’s confidence.

Fury’s confidence is never anything than overflowing. And with good cause. He did a number on Wilder in February 2020 and nothing Wilder says now changes that.

Fury surprised everybody by taking the fight to Wilder, whose only answer was to roll out the excuses.

One thing is certain, the outfit he wore to the ring had no impact on his performance. Fury arrived on a throne dressed in ermine for goodness sake.

The soundbites are fun and feed the chat rooms. For the truth to emerge we must wait until the first bell goes in Las Vegas on October 9.
