Tyson Fury in the dark over Anthony Joshua fight as champion plots next move

Tyson Fury has been given no indication that a fight with Anthony Joshua is on the table for this summer after his rival called for the pair to meet.

It appears that Joshua's planned summer ring return has been shut down, with a December return now touted, likely against a big name such as Deontay Wilder or Fury himself. However, his promoter Eddie has insisted that no decisions have been made for the two-time champion as yet.

And George Warren, who owns Fury's promotional outfit Queensberry with dad Frank, has said that there hasn't been any contact between the two parties for a summer showdown. This comes days after Joshua declared his disappointment at having to wait until December for his next outing.

"I don't know the answer to that," Warren told Sky Sports when asked about negotiations between the two teams. "The other side spoke a lot about wanting to reach out and contact us after the fight with Franklin; we've not heard anything, not had any contact, so there's been nothing to discuss with Tyson

"They made it quite clear pre-Franklin fight that they wanted to maybe look at that fight for the summer. They thought maybe there was an opportunity. I haven't heard from them. I haven't had a phone call, I haven't spoken to anyone about it. You'd have to ask them."

Fury was in talks until very recently for an April 19 meeting at Wembley Stadium with Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight title. It would have been the first undisputed bout of the four-belt era, but negotiations broke down over the details of a rematch clause after the unified champion accepted a slew of wild demands from his rival.

Now, eyes seem to be directed towards Fury facing Joe Joyce over the summer, should the WBO interim champion defeat Zhilei Zhang this weekend. Warren is keen for that bout, given that he also promotes Joyce, and expects a massive stoppage victory tomorrow night for the Olympic medalist.

"Joe is looking to put on a good performance," Warren insisted. "A devastating performance, like he did against Parker and keep building on that momentum. If Joyce comes through a tough fight with a big performance, he puts himself in that conversation [for a Fury fight]."
