Tyson Fury in talks over £15million fight with Australian Jai Opetaia

Tyson Fury’s camp are in talks about a potential £15million fight against unheralded Australian Jai Opetaia.

Fury’s promoter Bob Arum claims initial negotiations have taken place for the WBC champion to face Opetaia in Sydney next year.

That’s despite the fact Deontay Wilder has already enacted his rematch clause to set up a trilogy fight in the summer.

Facing the Gypsy King would be a massive step up in class for Opetaia, who is unbeaten in the cruiserweight division with 19 straight victories.

Fury would gather an astronomical £15million from the bout at the Bankwest Stadium, according to the Australian Daily Telegraph.

Arum told the Sun-Herald: “He would love to come; we love to fight in different places.

“That to me is something that is very exciting. What we’re talking about is in 2021 at some time.

“That would be a big event, particularly if we were able to stage it on a Sunday morning because then that would be prime time back in the US.

“I had a tremendous experience in Australia for that Jeff Horn fight. I’m very open to coming back again.”

Fury’s last outing in February saw him knock out Wilder in one of the best heavyweight performances ever.

The 31-year-old dominated from the outset, knocking down the former champion twice before Mark Breland threw in the towel to end the contest in the seventh round.

Wilder, who blamed his costume for the defeat, is confident he can turn things around in a third fight.

The Bronze Bomber said on Instagram : “I will rise again. I am strong. I am a king, you can’t take my pride.

“I am a warrior. I am a king that will never give up. I’m a king that will fight to the death.

“And if anyone don’t understand that, don’t understand what it is to go to war, don’t understand what it is to fight, we will rise again. We will regain the title.

“I will be back. We will hold our heads up high. Your king is in great spirit.

“We will rise like a phoenix from the ashes and regain the title.

“I’ll see you in a few months, for the war has just begun. All my love to all my people.”
