Tyson Fury hijacks Tom Schwarz press conference ahead of Las Vegas fight

Tyson Fury hijacked the final press conference for his showdown with Tom Schwarz as he tried to ramp up the excitement for his Las Vegas debut.

The self-proclaimed ‘Gypsy King’ started the media event early as he stepped up on stage and introduced his opponent.

Fury then demanded questions before the actual press conference kicked off in a theatre in the MGM Grand hotel where this weekend’s fight takes place.

The British star has been enjoying his first fight week in Las Vegas and was lapping up all the interest here in the States.

“The crowd have warmed to me,” he said. “American people are coming up to me in the street looking to talk and get pictures.

“I’m actually quite surprised. It is quite humbling.

“Here we are in Las Vegas, MGM Grand, all the big fights happen here, seeing your face up on all the movie screens around the Strip is incredible.

“The fight with Deontay Wilder helped with my profile in the US but now this is the biggest fight of my life.”

Unbeaten Fury, 30, then joked with Schwarz during the face off about how good looking he believes the German fighter is.

The Brit was certainly in a relaxed mood and earlier repeated his inspiring message about mental health.

Fury fought off addiction and depression to shed 10st and get back into fighting shape last year.

He said: “I wanted to prove to people that there is a way back. I look to inspire people to better their lives. If I can do it then anyone can as I am just a normal bloke.

“Why am I in Las Vegas fighting? I want to help. I want to help people reach for something.

“I was down and out. Even my family thought I was finished but I dusted myself off and got back on the road.

“I have been heavyweight champion of the world, I’ve come back from nothing. Everything I do now is a bonus.”

Schwarz also looked calm ahead of the biggest fight of his career as he went face-to-face with Fury for the first time.

He said: “We have prepared well, I’m ready for this challenge. This is a fight I’ve wanted and now I get my opportunity on the biggest stage.”
