Tyson Fury confronted Wladimir Klitschko while wearing a Batman outfit and warned the “boring” world champion he plans to “knock him spark out”.
The 27-year-old, who will take on Klitschko in Düsseldorf on 24 October with the Ukranian’s WBA, WBO and IBF world titles on the line, entered the press conference in London in costume, did a lap of honour to muted applause, briefly wrestled a man dressed as The Joker, then changed into a suit.
Fury told his rival at the event: “You’ve never fought a Gypsy King before. You never fought a king before. You’re looking at one here, pal. You ain’t nothing. You’re an old man. You’ll get knocked out. I cannot wait for this.
“Welcome to my city, welcome to my town, UK baby. It’s going to be a very sharp, easy knockout … I’m the man in these shores. There’s no other heavyweights apart from me. There’s only ever been me.”
The 39-year-old Klitschko, who repeatedly called Fury a “clown” as his opponent stood up and confronted him, offered to give him “therapy … I’m you’re doctor”. He added: “I’m going to make you eat your words.”
Fury, whose 24-0 record will be tested by Klitschko who has not been defeated in 11 years, told the champion at an event in July: “It’s a personal mission for me to rid boxing of a boring person like you. I’m interested in breaking your face in. You’re boring, I want to get rid of you out of the heavyweight division. I am the new blood in the division, you are an old man.”
