Tyson Fury gives update on Deontay Wilder fight after 'cancel' comments

Tyson Fury is set to return to full training today to continue preparations for his fiercely-anticipated trilogy bout with Deontay Wilder.

The Wythenshawe fighter has spent the last few weeks in hospital with his wife Paris and newborn daughter Athena.

His daughter had to be sent to intensive care just hours after being born and spent a long time on ventilators in Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool.

Fury's father, John, had said that he was prepared to cancel the bout on compassionate grounds due to Tyson spending extended time in hospital.

However, addressing fans on social media, the Gypsy King assured fans that he will be fighting Wilder as planned on October 9th, promising a 'big result' in Las Vegas.

"I've just finished a little run this morning, getting it in," he told fans on Twitter and Instagram.

"Still here at the hospital, hopefully we'll be leaving today and I can start training camp for the big dosser [Wilder]. Big shout out to the people of Liverpool, they've been so welcoming."

Fury's comments come after his father made it clear that family comes first, having been informed that Tyson's newborn, Athena, 'died for three minutes' before being revived.

“Nobody could expect a boxing match to go on in times like this. Family is family, business is business and sport is sport but family is first and foremost, at the front of the queue," John told BT Sport.

“Because if you are a happy family man who knows everything is alright at home then you can perform on the night. I am his dad and he is here now and if problems persist then we will cancel the fight, I will cancel the fight."
