Tyson Fury drops retirement hint as he weighs up options after win over Deontay Wilder

Tyson Fury has suggested he could look to retire from boxing having completed his trilogy with Deontay Wilder.

The Gypsy King retained his WBC crown by knocking out his rival in Las Vegas last weekend, having also secured a seventh-round stoppage in their second fight last year after a thrilling draw in their opening bout.

There has been plenty of speculation over who Fury’s next opponent will be, with mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte looking to be the most likely candidate.

A unification bout with Oleksandr Usyk had also been touted, although the Ukrainian now looks set to face Anthony Joshua in a rematch around March next year after the former champion triggered a clause following his defeat last month.

There has also been the suggestion that Fury could choose to walk away from the ring completely, with Whyte himself admitting he wouldn’t be surprised to see his rival take that step.

Others, including Johnny Nelson and Carl Froch, have also floated the idea, and Fury himself hasn’t ruled out an early retirement.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Fury told The Telegraph.

“I’ve got one fight left on my contract with Top Rank and ESPN and we’ll see what that is.

“But I’m not thinking about boxing right now. I don’t know how many fights I’ve got left, I don’t know if I need to fight anymore. I don’t know what the future holds.

“I am motivated to get up in the morning, do a little bit of training and enjoy my day. I don’t have any goals in boxing; I have done everything and won everything, the only one to do it in my era.

“I will always have been the WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, Ring magazine champion, that will not evaporate in history, but once it is done, it is done – and you cannot get it back.

“Once you are done, it doesn’t matter how many belts you have, who you beat, what your record is. You are just another bare bum in the shower and I have always had that opinion.”

While Whyte looks set for a long-awaited bout with Fury, ‘The Body Snatcher’ wouldn’t be surprised to see his rival step away from the ring, with a fight yet to be formally agreed as he takes on Otto Wallin later this month.

"Fury is an unpredictable man who might say: 'I am done!',” Whyte said.

"I hope we can make a fight when I get past Wallin. But Fury is a difficult guy to plan.

"I haven't heard a word from him about making a fight."
