Tyson Fury coach agreed to work with heavyweight because of Deontay Wilder knockout condition

Tyson Fury’s trainer SugarHill Steward claims he only agreed to work with the Gypsy King because he believes he can knock out Deontay Wilder.

Fury has brought Steward in to train him to knock out Wilder in Saturday’s rematch and boldly claims he will stop the unbeaten WBC heavyweight king inside two rounds.

Steward believes that is the best strategy, even though Wilder has not been stopped since losing to Russian Evgenyi Romanov as an amateur in 2008.

“I’m predicting a knock-out,” said the American cornerman. “I don’t know about the round, but I see Tyson Fury scoring a sensational victory. I’m training him for a knock-out, that’s the plan, to get a knock-out.

“Tyson has been putting every effort into his training and I’m expecting a knock-out.

“He’s going to knock out the knock-out artist!

“I wouldn’t have taken on this fight if Tyson didn’t believe he could knock him out. That’s the only strategy for me.”

Steward says Fury must go for the stoppage to avoid being robbed again by the judges like he was in their first fight in December 2018.

He believes - like most of the boxing world - that Fury won, but says he must leave nothing to chance.

“I think he won the first fight,” he said. “But regardless of what I think, he didn’t win the fight.

“The judges made it a draw. He left himself in a position where he was not they sole decision holder. If you go out there and knock the guy out, then you are the judge.

“You don’t let anybody else be the judge. They always say if you want something doing, then do it yourself.

“He wants to win this fight, so he should do it himself and go for the knock-out. He says he wants a second-round knock-out. Good, that makes my job easier! I don’t have to convince him to get a knock-out.

“That’s what I believe in, knock-outs. This makes us gel a lot better because we’re both on the same page.”
