Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua or Carl Froch? Vote for the best boxer from Britain and Ireland

Lennox Lewis. Joe Calzaghe. Katie Taylor. The number of talented boxers to come out of Britain and Ireland in the past twenty years could go on forever.

British boxing is at an all-time high with fighters around the nation continuing to dominate in their respective weight classes.

But if you had to narrow it down to just one, who would you pick as the best?

Thankfully, we've cut the list down to 16 boxers. So, don't be surprised if there's a name (or two) you might have had in mind that didn't make the cut.

Each pair of boxers have been faced off at random, with the winner of each pairing moving on to the quarter-finals.

You can have your say on the round of 16 down below...

Joe Cazalghe

Calzaghe is a former two-weight world champion who retired undefeated with a record of 45-0. He won the WBO super-middleweight title against Chris Eubank and defended it 20 times. Calzaghe then moved up to light heavyweight and defeated ring legends Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr.

Kell Brook

One of many great fighters from Sheffield, Brook won the IBF welterweight title in 2014 and defended it with three consecutive stoppage wins. He's come up short against top welterweights Gennady Golovkin, Errol Spence and Terence Crawford and has since been linked to a fight with Amir Khan that should have happened many years ago.

Billy Joe Saunders

Saunders has dominated the British middleweight scene for years. He edged past Chris Eubank Jr in their 2014 grudge match, but his biggest win in 2015 when Saunders outclassed Canadian David Lemieux in front of his home crowd. After several controversies outside the ring, Saunders was stopped by pound-for-pound No.1 Canelo Alvarez in May.

Josh Taylor

Taylor made history when he became the first Briton to win the undisputed four-belt crown. The Scotsman handed Regis Prograis and Jose Ramirez their first loss on his journey to undisputed champ. He will aim to do the same to WBO mandatory challenger Jack Catterall when they fight this December.

Ricky Hatton

He may have been nicknamed Ricky 'Fatton' for piling on the pounds out of training camp, but there's no doubt Hatton is one of the best British boxers of all time. He brought an army of Brits across the pond for his 2007 clash with Floyd Mayweather, but was handed his first loss after 43 straight wins.

Anthony Joshua

Joshua quickly became the poster boy of British boxing after winning gold at the 2012 Olympics. 'AJ' won 22 straight fights with 21 knockouts before his shock loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019. He won his titles back later that year, but lost them against last month to Oleksandr Usyk.

Carl Froch

Froch first won super-middleweight gold against disgraced Jean Pascal, but would go on to lose his title to Mikel Kessler in 2010 and Andre Ward in 2011. He won the WBA and IBF titles in the last five fights of his career, avenging his loss to Kessler and retiring after knocking out George Groves in front of 80,000 at Wembley.

Tyson Fury

Fury’s fighting future was in question after he ghosted from the sport following his win against Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. He battled with mental health issues and put on over 10 stone before returning to the sport in 2018. Fury has since been through an epic trilogy with Deontay Wilder, won the WBC title and looked unbeatable in the process.

Lennox Lewis

Lewis is the last fighter to hold the undisputed heavyweight championship and one of five heavyweights to be a three-time world champion. He defeated the likes of Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield and Ray Mercer during his professional career. Lewis retired in 2003 after a hard-fought win over Vitali Klitschko.

Katie Taylor

The current undisputed female lightweight champion, Taylor is running out of worthy opponents to face at the moment. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist has looked unbeatable in her 19 professional fights. Taylor can unify her division with a fight against WBC titleholder Chantelle Cameron.

Prince Naseem

One of boxing's greatest showmen, Naseem played a big part in bringing showboating and spectacular ring walks into the sport. The two-time featherweight champion could also walk the walk, with 31 of his 36 wins coming by stoppage. Naseem only fought once after his shock loss to Marco Antonio Barrera in 2001.

Amir Khan

The former unified light-welterweight champion and Olympic silver medalist Khan was known for his blistering speed in the ring. He beat the likes of Marcos Maidana, Zab Judah and Chris Algieri during his prime. Khan has struggled in the latter stages of his career having been stopped by Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.

Carl Frampton

The two-weight world champion Frampton dominated the super-bantamweight scene before moving up to featherweight. He had an epic two-fight encounter with Leo Santa Cruz, with the scores currently at one apiece. Frampton fell short in his bid of becoming a three-weight champion to Jamal Herring in April.

Callum Smith

Smith won the 2018 Super Series, WBA and The Ring super middleweight titles after knocking out George Groves. 'Mundo' suffered the first loss of his professional career when he was outclassed by Canelo Alvarez last December. He returned in fashion last month with a devastating knockout of Lenin Castillo.

Johnny Nelson

Another fine fighter to come out of Sheffield, Nelson held the WBO cruiserweight title for six years making him the longest-reigning world cruiserweight champion of all time. The Brit retired after going unbeaten in his last 20 fights, winning 19 of those and only fighting to a split draw against Guillermo Jones.

David Haye

The former cruiserweight king Haye was one of the most feared punchers in his prime. He unified his cruiserweight belts and defended them before moving up to heavyweight and winning the WBA title against Russian giant Nikolai Valuev. Haye retired from the ring in 2018 after consecutive defeats to Tony Bellew.
