Tyrone football selector Gavin Devlin has been hit with a 24-week ban.
Devlin has had the suspension imposed as a result of an incident during an under-15 game between Tyrone and Down on July 27 in Garvaghey.
He has been punished for “disruptive conduct by a supporter not causing the premature termination of a game” and the ban will, in theory, impact on his ability to contribute as Mickey Harte’s right-hand man given that it stretches right into the 2020 season.
However, he has the right to appeal the suspension with the Central Appeals Committee.
Devlin played on the Tyrone team that won the county’s first All-Ireland senior title in 2003 and won a second medal as a sub two years later.
In more recent years, he was drafted in as long-serving manager Harte’s assistant.
Elsewhere, ex-Tipperary hurler Eoin Brislane has also been banned for an incident in an under-15 game, this being in the Arrabawn tournament between his native county and Wexford last month.
The Central Hearings Committee says it has proven two offences against him, “abusive language towards a referee” which has landed him a four-week ban, though he’s been given a 12-week suspension for the more serious misdemeanour of “minor physical interference with a referee”.
