Tyrone GAA move to allay fears that Darragh Canavan's season could be over

Tyrone joint-boss Feargal Logan has allayed fears that Darragh Canavan’s season could be over after the attacking ace suffered a nasty ankle injury in the recent crushing defeat by Kerry.

But Logan admitted exciting young forward Canavan, a son of Tyrone legend Peter, was “in difficulties” for the Ulster Championship opener against Cavan in two and a half weeks.

Logan went on to reveal that All Star forward Cathal McShane is back in full training again following a serious ankle injury suffered last spring in a League encounter with Galway.

All-Ireland under-21 winning boss Logan said: “Darragh had an ankle injury just innocently happen during that Kerry game and it’s going to keep him out for a couple of weeks.

“The early signs are good, albeit it’s a painful injury and debilitating injury.

“It’s very unfortunate for Darragh. Hopefully, it’s a matter of weeks and not beyond that.

“He may be in difficulties for the Cavan game. It would be hopeful but we have got to take it day by day, week by week for the meantime.”

On McShane, who turned down a potential career in the AFL to commit to Tyrone, Logan said: “Cathal is coming on very well and is in full participation, essentially.

“Because it’s been such a long time off with Cathal, we are just reintegrating him gently, but he is participating well in all the training.

“So we are hopeful with Cathal that it all comes together.”
