Tyrone GAA All-Ireland winners honoured with civic reception

Stars of Tyrone GAA’s All-Ireland Championship winning team were honoured with a civic reception in Dungannon this week.

The county’s gaelic football team came out on top in this year’s competition, defeating Mayo on their way to an unexpected success, sparking wild scenes of celebration throughout the county.

A number of the team were in attendance on Monday as their achievements were recognised by Mid Ulster District Council at an event at the Hill of the O’Neill and Ranfurly House.

Tyrone joint-manager and Stewartstown man Feargal Logan accepted the Civic Honours award from the council on behalf of the team.

Six of the players named on the RTE Sunday Game Team of the Year reside in Mid Ulster, including Edendork trio Conn Kilpatrick, Niall Morgan and Darren McCurry.

Morgan, McCurry and team vice-captain Kieran McGeary were in attendance at the event, alongside local representatives.

Chair of the council, councillor Paul McLean congratulated the team and management, saying their efforts would live long in the memory for those in the local area.

“The Tyrone team surpassed all expectations this year, picking up All Ireland and Ulster titles in Feargal Logan and Brian Dooher’s first year as joint managers,” Cllr McLean of the DUP said.

“This talented group of players and their managers have represented our towns and villages on the world stage with honour.

“Their efforts and decorum will live long in the memories of the many people who watched them lift the Sam Maguire trophy.”

Tyrone’s players are expected to dominate the prizes in the annual Allstar awards which will be handed out in early December, with 15 of the team receiving nominations.
