Tyrone defender Ronan McNamee hearing set for Thursday night

Tyrone defender Ronan McNamee is to appear before the Central Hearings Committee tonight in a bid to be freed to play against Donegal on Sunday.

McNamee was sent off on a straight red card as a result of an incident with Cavan’s Conor Brady towards the end of last Saturday’s Ulster quarter-final, which the Red Hands won comfortably by eight points.

He was automatically slapped with a one-match ban which, as things stand, rules him out of the semi-final against Donegal at Brewster Park, reports the Irish Mirror.

He has sought a hearing, however, which is set to take place this evening and represents his best chance of having the red card quashed. There would still be avenues of appeal through the Central Appeals Committee and Disputes Resolution Authority if the CHC back up referee David Gough’s call but challenges are rarely successful when going those routes these days.

With it being a knockout tie, Tyrone will be desperate to play their strongest hand and have the 2019 All Star at their disposal as they bid to reach a first Ulster final since last winning the title in 2017.
