Tyron Woodley's coach casts doubt on his own fighter's chances of beating Jake Paul

Tyron Woodley's coach Pedro Diaz has admitted he wishes his fighter had more time to train for his rematch with Jake Paul.

The former UFC welterweight champion had been training for a bout in January, but was on set of a movie when he received the call to face the YouTube star on just two weeks' notice.

And coach Diaz has said that while he's confident in his fighter's ability, there is a chance that Paul's improvements since their first bout could cause him problems, casting doubt over whether or not Woodley will win this weekend

“Boxing is not predictable," Diaz told the Betway Insider Blog. "[Yordenis] Ugas took the fight against Manny Pacquiao at ten days notice and got the win.

"It's the same this time with Woodley, so I think it's possible he could beat Jake.

"But Jake Paul has improved a lot, and I think Jake Paul is going to move a lot more in this fight than the first one because he knows what happened in the first fight when he stood in front of Tyron.

"Jake’s going to avoid going to war with Tyron.”

Despite believing Paul will look to avoid getting into a war with his rival, Diaz does believe that it will be a back-and-forth fight with both men landing big shots.

He expects "a great battle", despite wishing that Woodley would have had more than a matter of days to prepare to face the bigger, younger Paul, who has been in camp almost the entire time since their last meeting.

“Paul is a great warrior who has been improving and developing his boxing skills and has a great team," Diaz continued.

"And Woodley is a great athlete who has a lot of experience and is always in shape and ready, he's always training, but I'd have liked Tyron to have more notice for this rematch with Paul, to have more time to train.

"Everyone knows it's a last minute fight, Paul has had a long full training camp and Woodley has had very little time to prepare.

"But it's a more interesting fight than the first one, it's going to be a great battle."

Woodley only left the movie set on Friday, and will begin his fight-week activities tonight with an open workout in Florida.

He and Paul likely won't come face-to-face but will meet at a press conference tomorrow night; their first interaction since the YouTube star won their August bout by split decision in Ohio.

Woodley hasn't won a fight since his 2018 UFC title defence against Darren Till, losing his last four UFC bouts to Kamaru Usman, Gilbert Burns, Colby Covington and Vicente Luque before making his boxing debut against Paul over the summer.
