Tyron Woodley claims Jake Paul fight could break into top-five PPVs of all time

Tyron Woodley has claimed his fight with Jake Paul is on course to bring in more viewers than Mike Tyson's infamous 'Bite Fight' rematch with Evander Holyfield.

The former UFC champion lost a split decision to YouTube star Paul in his professional boxing debut over the weekend, and reportedly attracted a massive number of viewers on pay-per-view.

Woodley and Paul fought in front of a sold-out crowd in the social media celebrity's hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, and reportedly matched numbers brought in by his older brother's recent exhibition with Floyd Mayweather.

"We are right now right underneath Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul for pay-per-view and still counting," Woodley told fans on an Instagram Live video.

"If we go over that number, it’s going to be the fifth-highest pay-per-view in the history of pay-per-view.

"And we sold out the arena, for all those people that said ‘You not as raw! You don’t know how to move the needle!’"

A top five all-time boxing pay-per-view slot would put the event's buys close to the 2million sales mark, which would be incredible given both men's skillsets.

Both Paul and Woodley are raw novices, with a collective six boxing bouts between them at professional and amateur level.

The current number five PPV slot is held by Holyfield vs Tyson 2, the infamous fight where Tyson bit his rival Holyfield's ear and was disqualified.

“The pay-per-view is doing some s*** right now, I promise you - pay-per-view is doing some s*** right now," Woodley continued.

“I told you and you motherf***ers laughed at me, go back to my Instagram, I said this will be the biggest PPV of the year.

"I said that and n****s laughed at me, they f***ing put clown emojis, ‘Haha, what about this? It’s gonna be bigger than that, hahaha!’

"F***ing jokes on you, I don’t know where it’s at right now but they’re still counting - that’s s***’s still running up.

"So I want to thank everybody for buying it, I want to thank everybody for giving a f***, I want to thank the promotion for putting the fight together.

"I’m excited because part two is going to be crazier."

Paul was truly tested for the first time in his boxing career as he earned a hard-fought split decision win over former UFC champion Woodley.

Paul was taken past the second round for the first time in his short career by Woodley who showed patience bordering on reluctance.

The hometown favourite was given the nod by two of the judges - a result which left both men perplexed.

And the YouTuber even agreed in the ring to a rematch, so long as Woodley got a tattoo declaring his love for Paul, as they had bet before the bout.

However, that doesn't appear to be on the cards in the near future, as Paul hinted at taking some time off before publicly announcing his retirement, before quickly 'returning'.

"I've been boxing for 18 months, I haven't been to the dentist, my teeth are crooked, my nose is crooked, I need to take some time," Paul said in the ring after the bout.

"I'm only 24-years-old, I need to find out who I am, I'm changing a lot."
