Tyrique George: Everton make loan bid for young Chelsea star as transfer deadline approaches

Loan ranger: Tyrique George - (London Standard)

Everton are interested in signing Tyrique George and have sent Chelsea an offer to sign him on loan.

Standard Sport reported before the winter transfer window opened that Chelsea were willing to sell or loan the winger out this month.

Everton are one of the clubs who have been following George’s situation this month, and they have now made their move following a major setback suffered with Manchester City loanee Jack Grealish ruled out for the season with a stress fracture in his foot which could require surgery.

The offer of a loan move for George for six months is believed to have included an option to buy him in the summer.

Chelsea have used the 19-year-old sparingly this season. George has made just four appearances in the Premier League this season, failing to make a single start.

The forward was extremely close to joining Fulham on Deadline Day in the summer before the move broke down.

He was originally a breakout star from their run to UEFA Conference League glory last season under previous Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, who promoted both George and centre-back Josh Acheampong into the first team regularly for that competition.

When explaining the situations of George and Acheampong ahead of the window shutting on Monday, head coach Liam Rosenior said on Friday: “Tyrique, unfortunately for him, hasn't had many minutes — so there's a different individual situation for him. Josh is an outstanding player, I want Josh with me.”

That gave further indication that George will leave Chelsea before the close of the window once an appropriate avenue has been found, and Everton could prove a solution after entering the market following Grealish’s serious injury.

George is an England Under-21 international and a Chelsea academy graduate.
