Tyrese Campbell transfer latest as Rangers go head-to-head with Celtic for Stoke star

Rangers are ready to go head-to-head with Celtic to try and bring Stoke City star Tyrese Campbell to Scotland.

The Light Blues are set to step up their interest in the England under-20 star, who could move cross-border in the summer for just under £400,000.

Record Sport revealed last month that Celtic were also keen and they have started to make advances.

That, however, hasn’t put Rangers off and they are ready to make their own pitch.

The Ibrox side have sent scouts down south to have Campbell watched regularly and he is a player director of football Ross Wilson has been aware of for quite some time.

Rangers are looking for other long-term striking options to back-up Alfredo Morelos with Jermain Defoe in the twilight of his career, although he is likely to sign an extension.

Campbell is one Rangers believe could have a real value going forward as he continues to develop and could become a multi-million talent.

Interest in Campbell – the son of former Everton and Arsenal star, Kevin – has also heated up in recent weeks.

The 20-year-old has always been tipped for big things and that was why Stoke paid £1.75 million to sign him from Manchester City in 2018.

His move to the Potteries hasn’t really worked as the club have gone into freefall since they dropped out of the Premier League and have had various different managers.

Campbell has found first-team football hard to find and was why he went to Shrewsbury Town last season on-loan.

The big striker is out of contract in the summer and that means he could move to Scotland on a knock-down deal.

Stoke are aware of the Celtic's and Rangers' interest and that English Premier League clubs Wolves and Crystal Palace are also keen.

Stoke had offered him a new deal but Campbell had told the Potters he wanted to leave because of his lack of first-team football.

Stoke boss Michael O’Neill has since come in and thrown Campbell into his starting XI and he has scored three goals in as many games.

O’Neill is still hoping he can persuade him to sign a new deal but knows he faces a real fight – especially from Scotland’s big two.

If he can’t then Stoke will look to sell in this window rather than lose him for a rock-bottom fee in the summer.
