Tyre and MOT centre in Welsh town forced to shut due to positive coronavirus case

A tyre and MOT centre in a Welsh town was forced to close suddenly due to a positive test for coronavirus.

The local branch of Kwik-Fit in Carmarthen closed early on Friday, and people could be seen inside wearing personal protective equipment over the weekend.

The centre, located in the Pensarn area of the town, is normally open seven days a week but remained shut on Saturday and Sunday, with shutters across the front of the building and a sign placed on the main entrance informing people that the site was “temporarily closed”.

It has been confirmed that a member of staff at the centre has tested positive for Covid-19, while all other staff are currently self-isolating for 14 days.

The building was cleaned thoroughly, but Kwik-Fit has said that the centre can reopen with different staff in place.

A spokesman for the company, which has more than 600 centres across the UK and Northern Ireland, said: “A member of staff at our Carmarthen centre tested positive for Covid-19.

"Following protocol, all other staff members are self isolating and the centre has been closed to be thoroughly cleaned. The centre can reopen with a different team who have had no contact with the regular centre staff.”

The company later confirmed that the centre in Carmarthen reopened on Monday.
