What’s new: Shanghai has halted rail and some subway operations as typhoon In-fa lands in eastern China, with heavy rains expected to affect the city until Tuesday, according to local authorities.
The Shanghai government has ordered air, rail, sea and subway transportation hubs to suspend or adjust their operations in accordance with the city’s emergency procedures, according to a notice issued Sunday.
The authorities have also stopped all outdoor construction and group activities, shutting down parks, tourist attractions and amusement venues.
The background: Typhoon In-fa, the sixth to arrive in China this year, made landfall in East China’s Zhejiang province, hitting Zhoushan city at noon Sunday and Pinghu city on Monday morning, according to the China Meteorological Administration.
Shanghai has issued multiple typhoon warnings since Friday. On Sunday, a number of subway lines suspended services, and Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport both canceled all inbound and outbound flights, according to local transportation operators. For 7 p.m., all inbound high-speed trains were also canceled.
