Typhoon Hagibis video shows Japan rugby team forced to wade through flooded stadium to train

A remarkable video of the Japanese rugby team wading through a flooded stadium has emerged.

As Typhoon Hagibis begins to batter the Tokyo area, Japan and Scotland continued preparations for a game that may or may not take place tomorrow.

With two games already cancelled because of the typhoon, the crucial Pool A match between the two countries is also in significant doubt.

World Rugby have advised that they will inspect Yokohama Stadium 'when it is practical to do so' but that is expected to take place Sunday morning, if at all.

With a chance that the game may still go ahead, Japan arrived at the Prince Chichibu Stadium in Tokyo for their captain's run on Saturday morning.

But they faced a challenge to even get to the pitch.

The tunnel that takes the players down a flight of stairs from the dressing room area and then back up to the pitch was completely flooded.

Knee-high water greeted them as they made their way to the pitch with one player being carried on a team-mates back.

Some attempted to walk precariously on a set of benches, whereas others just decided to walk straight through it.

It is remarkable footage but only serves to represent just how severe conditions already are, with the worst of the weather still to come.

Typhoon Hagibis is widely forecast to be one of the worst on record to hit Japan. You can follow updates on its devastating effects here, with a mass evacuations being ordered.

The Japan v Scotland controversy has sparked furious debate all over the country, with some saying the integrity of the tournament will suffer if it does not go ahead.

If the game cannot be played, as per tournament rules, the game shall be deemed a 0-0 draw with both teams getting two tournament points each.

That would likely knock Scotland out of the tournament, leaving Ireland needing just one point against Samoa to finish second in the Pool behind hosts Japan.
