Typhoon Faxai heading for Japan as England prepare for extreme weather at Rugby World Cup

The typhoon that is sweeping its way across Asia looks set to cause disruption in Japan - and England head coach Eddie Jones has revealed that he has put contingency plans in place to deal with it.

Typhoon Faxai moved its way northwest towards eastern Japan over the Pacific on Saturday and Japan's Meteorological Agency warned that it is set to hit Tokyo as early as Sunday night.

The Rugby World Cup is less than two weeks away with England due to fly out to Kanto on Sunday and the season's 15th typhoon is expected to reach the coast of the region by Monday morning.

The current typhoon has been clocked with wind speeds of up to 180 kilometres-per-hour.

But tournament organisers revealed that they have planned for such an occurrence with the possibility of relocating teams from their bases and, in some cases, moving matches to different venues.

Speaking after England's dominant 37-0 victory over Italy, Jones said: "It's going to affect the World Cup, there's no doubt about it."

"You've just got to ride with it, be adaptable and work out how you can cope with the situation.

"Once the typhoon comes, you just can't go outside. It's basically a lock-down. It can vary between being very violent to quite mild.

"The issue is you can't go outside but we've got ideas of what we do if a typhoon stopped us training outdoors. We'll train on artificial turf indoors."

Luckily for England, their opening two games against Tonga in Sapporo and the US in Kobe have roofs.

England boss Jones spent long periods living in Japan and was the head coach of the national side from 2012 to 2015.
