I'm going to rate all Soul Reaper weapons in Type Soul from best to worst according to true combo potentials, how good the M1s and crits are and overall usefulness. Some combine well with Shikai/Bankai and some with certain skill trees like Hakuda for the fighting styles. Here's my Type Soul Soul Reaper weapon tier list and guide.

Soul Reaper Weapons Tier List in Type Soul

The best Soul Reaper weapon in Type Soul are those that have strong true combo potential or just really powerful guardbreak crits. You can find them across A and S-Tiers and note that some are for specific builds like fighting styles for Hakuda or Seventh Thunder for Lightning Shikai. B-Tier weapons can be decent but in more niche scenarios and C-Tiers are underpowered (Never use D-Tiers). Let's analyze all weapons individually.

Best Clans: TS Clan tier list.
S-Tier Soul Reaper Weapons
S-Tier Weapons | Why S-Tier? |
---|---|
![]() Rapier |
• One of the fastest weapons in Type Soul with great mobility crits that are extended if you jump • The crit is so fast that you can basically combo from it if you're fast enough to turn around and have fast moves from Speed • That said it gets even crazier on the fifth crit you land because it gets empowered to stun-lock and your M1s become like crit dashes as well which is OP for mobility and combos • The empowered crit's hit box also moves with you and sets up true combos like into Rising Swallow, Floating Strikes and pretty much any high damage move like Horizon Core • Arguably one of the best weapons in Type Soul overall across races |
![]() Greatsword |
• Really great combo starter because the first M1 has hyperarmor and you can do a feint and then M1 to start the combo again with a second hyperarmor hit • The crit just adds on top with a double swing with guardbreak on both hits and they have really great range and speed • Overall one of the best weapons, especially against Hakuda because it's really hard to launch you with that hyperarmor • In Bankai it's even better because you get mobility on the crit |
![]() Muay Thai |
• The reason Muay Thai is one of the best Soul Reaper weapons in Type Soul is the hitscan instant M1s that are incredibly hard to parry • The crit is also amazing for a Hakuda build to combo with and it deals really high posture too while moving you forward • Easy S-Tier |
![]() Dagger |
• One of the most flexibile weapons on any build because it's just a fast M1s weapon with two dashes as a crit for mobility and repositioning • Delay the crit dashes to catch people off guard or use it as an alternative to flashsteps since they are more expensive now due to the Reiatsu regen changes • The bankai version is also good for combos |
![]() Longsword |
• The crit is amazing on Longsword because it's one of the best Soul Reaper combo starters due to the guardbreak and mobility on it • The M1s are also good and the Bankai version of the crit is even better with more damage and hyperarmor |
![]() Petals (Flower) |
• Unlike many of the Shikai weapons which suck, Petals is actually the GOAT of Shikai weapons due to an excellent range and speed on M1s • But the main part of why it's good is the guardbreak on the dash crit that pulls enemies with you so that you can combo extend off that • You can use a Shikai stasis but I would keep Petals since it's really good |
A-Tier Soul Reaper Weapons
A-Tier Weapons | Why A-Tier? |
---|---|
![]() Seventh Thunder |
• The Lightning Shikai-locked weapon that actually has some decent utility and mobility with the crit that can deal good damage and also escape some domain effects where your flashstep is disabled • Couple this with fast M1s and you have yourself a great mobility weapon that gets even better when in Lightning Bankai • Great with Speed builds |
![]() Legacy Murasama |
• The Legacy Murasama on Soul Reaper is a menace because the different crit variations like the standing crit disable non-mode moves for 2 seconds which is brutal • The W Crit disables flashsteps so you can keep putting out pressure • All effects are applied in the bankai crit but I wouldn't use the S Crit in base since it's almost useless |
![]() Yamato |
• Even with the crit nerf this is still a decent sword that deals great damage with the crit but you have to combo into it since you can't move and slash anymore • The Bankai version just gets better and it's overall good for move stacking on Shikai like Kyoka Suigetsu to protect the clone |
![]() Unstable |
• A fighting style that when combined with Visored has a really good crit that knocks enemies into the air and forces a parry that I recommend you feint through and guarantee a hit • The M1s aren't as good as Muay Thai but the crit has great combo potential with Tora Reach or Spine Rend and other Hakuda moves |
![]() Formless |
• Lot of great crit variations here based on directional inputs • The W Crit is really good because it's a mini stun where they usually always have to parry which you can feint through and combo into Tora Reach or Catching Dragon • The standing is good for iFrames to dodge moves • The S crit punch is the best one for the guardbreak and uptilt for combos |
![]() Odachi |
• I really like the Odachi now with the re-release buff where it has hyperarmor on M1s while keeping its long reach • The crit is a good mix up and it has guardbreak on the third hit • It gets even better in Bankai where the third hit dashes through them and stuns them so you can keep applying pressure |
![]() Hammer |
• The only reason Hammer is A instead of S is because the crit is really slow to start up but if you can hit it, it stuns for so long that you can true combo into anything • The M1s are also like Greatsword where you have hyperarmor on the first hit • The Bankai version is decent too |
![]() Hakuda Fists |
• Default Hakuda weapon • Really fast and smooth hitscan M1s that are difficult to parry • The crit is also a fast dash that guardbreaks which is a really good combo starter • Really good with a Speed/Hakuda for tons of pressure and fast combos |
![]() Scythe |
• A really great mix of mobility and damage here with a guardbreak crit that pulls your opponent with you so it's a great combo starter • Between A and B but I decided on A because it starts combos really well |
![]() Wabisuke (Weight) |
• A-Tier solely because both the M1 and the Crit apply the Weight passive which is really good with the buffs to slow the enemy • One of the two Shikai weapons that is really good |
B-Tier Soul Reaper Weapons
B-Tier Weapons | Why B-Tier? |
---|---|
![]() Katana |
• Unlike some weapons with a wide hitbox the Katana crit is really narrow so you'll have to get used to aiming it but it's a really good weapon for combos • This is because if you get good at hitting with the crit you can combo extend into Rising Swallow and a lot of fast moves • It's definitely a weapon that requires practice so it's B I think but with great potential |
![]() Shunko |
• I'm not completely sure on Shunko because the last time I ran it with the Lightning version it sucked because of slow wind-ups • That said I have had a lot of success with the Wind version that has great range and launches for Hakuda • I hear good things about Fire and true stun combos but I haven't tried it • Avoid Ice, it sucks due to low range • I'll put it B-Tier for now with the potential to go to A with Wind and Fire when I try it |
![]() Razors Edge |
• Used to be much better when the crit didn't have endlag and could actually start true combos • Now it's slow, has endlag and a smaller hitbox but I have to say the range on it is pretty good • Still, in combination with Berserk it's a decent weapon and the triple Crit into a projectile is great plus you have decent M1s • Overall now it's middle of the pack so B-Tier is perfect |
![]() Murasama |
• Overall the M1s and the crit are good but the reason I put it in B-Tier rather than A is because there's a bit of end lag on the crit • It makes it easy to punish you if your opponent dodges at the last second • That said the crit deals good damage and is fast so it's not C |
![]() Taekwondo |
• Taekwondo is one of the weaker FS due to the low reach with both M1s and the crit • It's only ever good as a combo extender if you're already comboing them so it's not useless • There's no utility to get close or powerful true combo potential so it's B |
![]() Dual Swords |
• I loved the speed on these before the nerf but now the M1s are noticeably slower so it's a B-Tier weapon • The crit saves it from C-Tier because it does guardbreak and it's a dash but it's kind of slow to be honest |
![]() Reishi Talon |
• A decent Hakuda/Kido build weapon that IMO relies on you having Ethereal Vise learned because the crit is much better with it • Basically it applies Mortal Ties on them and is overall a good combo tool so this is C or B without EV but can be A with EV |
C-Tier Soul Reaper Weapons
C-Tier Weapons | Why C-Tier? |
---|---|
![]() Sakanade (Confusion) |
• I'm overall not a fan of the Shikai weapons except Petals but Sakanade does have a good crit that teleports you behind the enemy • That said I would still maybe use a Shikai stasis for a good weapon |
![]() Spear |
• This weapon had so much potential with the hyperarmor guardbreak crit but what killed it is the double hit on it • This means that the first hit during the dash will guardbreak and the second one will immediately pop it so they'll be able to move again • It can be free damage but it doesn't really combo into anything |
![]() Twinblade |
• Slow M1s and a really bad dash crit that's slow and doesn't go as far as many of the other dash crits • That said the crit is not useless and can be a decent combo tool if they're close enough so it's not D |
![]() Siphons Wretch |
• SW got a massive speed nerf to M1s so it's not as good anymore • The only reason this is not in D is because at least you have some sustain utility with the team heal on crits |
D-Tier Soul Reaper Weapons
D-Tier Weapons | Why D-Tier? |
---|---|
![]() Abject |
• I'm not a fan of the Soul Reaper Abject (The Arrancar one is much better) because the crit is very easy to deal with and if you miss you get punished • The M1s deal good damage but they are slow so they're easy to parry • Overall I'd avoid this |
![]() Paintbrush (Ink) |
• I don't recommend using this weapon despite the debuff on the crit because you'll be much better off with Shikai stasis for a real weapon |
![]() Shinso (Weapon) |
• Same reason as Ink, it's just better to have competitive weapons than use this so grab a Shikai stasis for a good weapon |
