Tyne and Wear Metro cancel 13 trains due to driver shortage

Train operator Tyne and Wear Metro have had to cancel 13 trains today (Saturday October 2) due to lack of drivers.

The shortage of train drivers remains a national problem due to the Covid 19 coronavirus and training of drivers impacted by lockdown.

Tyne and Wear Metro has apologised for the inconvenience. The first cancelled train is the 5.21am Regent Centre train to South Hylton.

A spokesman said: "Some services are cancelled today due to a lack of available drivers"

05.21 Regent Centre – South Hylton
06.22 South Hylton – South Gosforth

Train 2
08.02 South Gosforth – South Shields
08.41 South Shields – St James
10.13 St James – South Shields
11.42 South Shields – South Gosforth

Train 3
14.14 South Gosforth – Airport

Train 4
18.17 South Gosforth – South Shields
18.56 South Shields – St James
20.30 St James – South Shields
21.56 South Shields – South Gosforth

Train 5
23.24 South Gosforth – Pelaw
23.51 Pelaw – Regent Centre
