Tymal Mills reacts after injury rules him out of remainder of T20 World Cup

Tymal Mills says he is "absolutely gutted" to miss out on the rest of England's T20 World Cup campaign after picking up a thigh injury.

The fast bowler pulled up during the win over Sri Lanka on Monday, with Chris Woakes stepping in to complete the over he was bowling.

It was announced earlier on Wednesday that Mills would play no further part in the competition.

The thigh problem has been described as "only a minor injury", but it is serious enough for England to replace him in the squad with Reece Topley, who steps up from his role as a travelling reserve.

It is another cruel blow for Mills, who has great ability but whose career has been hampered by a series of injury issues.

The most serious of those is caused by a congenital back condition, and he spent much of last winter wearing a back brace while he recovered from a stress fracture.

He had worked his way back into Eoin Morgan 's England squad after a superb series of displays for Sussex in the T20 Blast and Southern Brave in the inaugural edition of The Hundred.

Addressing his latest injury blow, Mills took to social media to express his disappointment over facing yet another spell on the sidelines.

"Thank you for the messages," he wrote on Twitter. "Absolutely gutted but I’ve been here before.

"Loved being back in an England shirt and will do all I can to get back again.

"Only a minor injury but I won’t be where I need to in the next 10 days. Backing the boys all the way."

It's not great news for England either, who lose their joint-highest wicket-taker of the competition so far – he had claimed seven scalps in four games, the same total as Adil Rashid.

Mark Wood and David Willey are the frontrunners to replace him when England take on South Africa in their final Super 12 game on Saturday.

Wood offers the same ability to bowl at over 90mph, while Willey could provide the same left-arm angle.

Morgan's other options are either the new man Topley or Tom Curran, who has proven to be expensive in the final few overs in recent years.
