Tyler Ulis, Jerian Grant among import players Illawarra Hawks considering to replace Aaron Brooks

It’s not often that teams peel back the curtains on processes by basketball front offices with the desire for secrecy sought to keep even the slightest competitive edge. As part of an ongoing series on their Twitter, though, the Illawarra Hawks offered a very candid look at their current search for a new import player to replace Aaron Brooks.

The Hawks’ video series The Foundation Club, posted weekly on Twitter, showed fans the team’s war room as they deliberate potential options to sign. A host of familiar names, all fringe NBA players, were considered with Illawarra keeping a growing list of players on a whiteboard as the episode goes.

The Hawks consider a host of players of multiple positions, ranging from forwards to guards. Eventually, the team settles on the need for a guard next to LaMelo Ball as a more natural one-for-one replacement for Brooks.

Kadeem Allen is one of the first players earnestly discussed. Allen is on a two-way contract with the Knicks currently. More well-known players in Jerian Grant and Tyler Ulis are included in discussions, the former more heavily than the latter.

The entire list is hard to read and has to be pieced together throughout but includes a lot of names NBA fans will be familiar with. Here’s a full list of players on the board (h/t Olgun Uluc/Fox Sports Australia):

Quincy Miller
Angel Delgado
Okaro White
John Jenkins
Brian Roberts
Kadeem Allen
Tyrell Corbin
Jerian Grant
Julian Washington
Josh Akognon
Justin Dentmon
Mario Chalmers
Bobby Brown
Brian Roberts
London Perrantes
James Bell
Isaiah Briscoe
Tyler Ulis

The other name to stand out on the list is Mario Chalmers. While nearly every other player on the list is a younger fringe player, Chalmers is very similar to Brooks in that he is a player on the other side of his NBA career. Currently, Chalmers is playing in Greece.

As it stands, Illawarra has been unable to bring in any of those players quickly enough to have them on the roster for the team’s game against Brisbane on Sunday.
