Tyler Roberts silences Leeds United critics as he takes on Patrick Bamford role

Critics have circled Tyler Roberts for much of his Leeds United career, but he will hope the last two matches have stemmed the flow of venom for the time being.

Premier League football has not always allowed Roberts to flourish or impress with the Whites, but in leading the line across the past three hours, he has impressed Marcelo Bielsa and others.

A promising display from the front in the Crystal Palace win was followed by a goal and much more confidence from Roberts in the Brentford draw.

He showed great anticipation and movement to slide in for the opening goal and with his tail up, he looked more than a handful for the opposition.

Roberts pressed well, linked up well, carried the ball well and showed some great final product around the box on Sunday.

WhoScored.com, the highly regarded football data analysis website, included Roberts in its Premier League Best XI for the weekend round of fixtures.

The Wales international’s 8.3 rating on the website put him ahead of the likes of Richarlison and Phil Foden in the weekend’s team of the week.

It may be a low-key accolade, but it’s some statistical evidence of the improvements Roberts has made and will look to build upon in the coming weeks while Patrick Bamford, reportedly, sits out more matches with injury.
