Tyler Roberts' reaction to finding out Leeds United had leapfrogged Sheffield United in the table

Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts says it was the Elland Road crowd's reaction to Sheffield United's defeat which made him aware his side returned to the top two on Saturday.

The Welshman starred in Leeds' 3-2 comeback win over Millwall which, combined with the Blades' 3-2 loss at home to Bristol City means that Marcelo Bielsa's side are back in the automatic promotion places.

Roberts laid on the assist for Pablo Hernandez's 83rd minute winner after Leeds had twice fallen behind, as the sold out Elland Road crowd erupted after the final whistle.

News of the Blades defeat was beginning to filter through, but when the stadium scoreboard showed the full-time Championship results, there was another massive cheer from the crowd - and it was only then Roberts realised Leeds' closest promotion rivals had dropped points.

"If I'm being honest, I literally forgot about it the whole game," Roberts said following the match.

"I forgot about it, obviously we got the result and I was buzzing with the three points and the fans were going 'wooooaahhh' and I didn't really know what was going on.

"Then the scoreboard came up and obviously that was a nice feeling to know that we are back in the top two where we belong and hopefully we can just keep getting the results and get up.

The two results mean that Leeds are now two points ahead of their Yorkshire rivals with seven matches left to play as Bielsa's side wrestled back the promotion initiative.

"Of course it's nice for it to be in our own hands again and I think we just need to focus on each game, next game, next game, next game and we will get the jobs done."

Leeds fell behind after just 10 minutes against the relegation-haunted Lions when Ben Thompson opened the scoring, only for Pablo Hernandez to level ten minutes before the break.

But a Ben Marshall penalty on 55 minutes saw the south Londoners retake the lead, only for Luke Ayling to nod home a Barry Douglas cross with 19 minutes left.

Hernanez's second goal of the afternoon came from an excellent cutback from Roberts, who admitted that Leeds did it the hard way against Neil Harris' side.

"We don't make it easy for ourselves, definitely," he continued.

"But like we have shown all season, we have got that trait to keep going, sticking together and getting them goals."
