Tyler Roberts keeps it simple when it comes to Sheffield United and promotion

Tyler Roberts has revealed the mood in the Leeds United camp ahead of the final run-in.

The Whites remained in second place in midweek after Sheffield United missed the chance to leapfrog them, drawing 1-1 away at Birmingham City.

They’re now one point clear of the Blades, but Roberts has insisted the focus is purely on their own affairs.

“No, I didn’t watch it,” he said. “I watched Barca (Barcelona), so yes, I just checked the result after. It’s a positive result for us, but it doesn’t really make a difference.

“Of course, we keep track of the table and points and stuff, but we’ve got a job to do and that’s what we’ve got to do.

“Obviously you’ve got the app on your phone and you just check now and then to see what the score is. I was flicking through the channels. I think it’s more a fact of we’ve got five games to go, we’ve got to win our five games, and that’s kind of the end of it.”

The 20-year-old attacker has become a regular fixture in Bielsa’s team in recent months, playing in the number 10 role behind Patrick Bamford, ever since Kemar Roofe injured his knee against Swansea City in mid-February.

Roofe, the club's top scorer this season with 14 goals, has become available over the past week, but had to settle for a spot on the bench. Bielsa has been reluctant to drop Roberts or anybody else in a settled starting line-up.

“No, we don’t say we feel pressure, more excitement and positivity’s flowing through the camp at the moment,” he said.

“The Championship’s got a lot of twists and turns and anyone can beat anyone, but the way we’re setting out to go about is to win five games.”

Why points tallies and records offer no interest for Marcelo Bielsa

That sentiment echoed the thoughts of his manager, who has called on United to win their final five games to guarantee promotion .

The pair of them were speaking in the pre-match press conference before Saturday’s crunch match with Sheffield Wednesday.

Steve Bruce’s Owls visit Elland Road in good form, and will also view the game as a must-win in order to keep their play-off hopes alive.
