Tyler Roberts breaks silence on Wales rule breach as Leeds United man praised for 'nastiness'

Here is the Leeds United morning digest on Tuesday 29th March 2021.

Roberts issues apology

Leeds United midfielder Tyler Roberts has been sent packing from Wales' international camp along with teammates Rabbi Matondo and Hal Robson-Kanu after breaking team curfew rules.

The forward posted a message on his social media account following the Welsh FA's announcement that the three would not be partaking in the team's World Cup Qualifying match with the Czech Republic this evening.

Roberts wrote: "Gutted to be leaving the camp early.. but rules are rules and I shouldn't have been up in the hotel longer than the set time. Sorry to the team, staff and wales fans. I will continue to work as hard as I can to earn my place in the squad for the euros".

The Leeds man then followed up his apology with a heart emoji and the wales flag emoji.

Deeney takes flak

Watford striker Troy Deeney has come in for criticism after labelling Kalvin Phillips as having 'nastiness' to his game on talkSPORT.

Deeney has been criticised for his characterisation of the England midfielder, which appears to have been intended as a compliment to the Leeds man.

Phillips is renowned for his full-blooded tackling and headstrong approach to defensive work.

“Looking at Phillips from Leeds – he’s got the legs and he’s got that nastiness in him.

“But Declan Rice is going to be the one who is constant," Deeney said of Phillips' European Championships chances.

Given Gareth Southgate's decision to start both Rice and Phillips against Albania, it may not come down to a straight shoot-out between the Leeds man and West Ham midfielder.

MOT Leeds News said: "Nasty? Phillips can put in the odd hard tackle but we’re surprised at how he’s been characterised by Deeney. Tough but fair seems more apt for Phillips."

Sevilla winger dampens Bielsa reunion rumours

Argentine international Lucas Ocampos has set the record straight over speculation surrounding his future at the Andalusian club.

Speaking to radio station Canal Sur Radio, Ocampos poured water on claims that he was seeking a move elsehwere.

Leeds United had been named as a club linked to the midfielder, largely due to the links with Marcelo Bielsa.

Bielsa purchased Ocampos for his Marseille side in 2015, taking the then-20-year-old under his wing for a brief period before departing.
