Tyler Onyango surgery confirmed after Everton midfielder suffers 'significant' injury

Everton midfielder Tyler Onyango will have surgery next week after sustaining a "significant" ankle fracture and ligament injury on Saturday.

The Blues youngster was stretchered out of his side's 1-0 victory over Man City in the FA Youth Cup this weekend after a challenge from Alex Robinson midway through the second half.

And Everton have now confirmed the 18-year-old will now undergo a procedure in London in the coming days to repair the ligament damage before beginning the rehabilitation process.

Onyango made his first team debut earlier this season when coming off the bench in the 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup for Carlo Ancelotti's side.

The highly-rated youngster has been training with the senior side for some time, but will now spend an extended period on the sidelines recovering from this injury setback.
