Wide receiver Tyler Lockett is quietly approaching the Seattle Seahawks’ franchise leaders in receiving yards. In fact, he is currently tenth on that list with 2,781. It could take a few years before he catches Doug Baldwin’s 6,563 at third place, and he could even choose to leave Seattle in the distant future, but it says something about Lockett that he is already in the top 10 after only four years in the NFL.
Lockett could very well pass Sam McCullum and Koren Robinson to move into eighth place by the end of this season, needing at least 786 yards to do so. He totaled 965 yards in his breakout 2018 season, so passing those two on the list in 2019 is certainly in the realm of possibility. In addition, Lockett is now the de facto No. 1 wide receiver for the Seahawks after Doug Baldwin’s release and retirement, so he will see an abundance of targets this season.
Lockett is also in a position to move up the Seahawks all-time lists for receptions and touchdowns, currently being in eighth place in the latter category.
Russell Wilson has built trust with Lockett over the years and that culminated in the two combining for a perfect passer rating last season. They look to be a solid quarterback-wide receiver duo for years to come, as Wilson is possibly in the zenith of his prime at age 30 with no signs of slowing down and Lockett could just now be entering his as he turns 27 in September.
There should be little doubt that Lockett will produce in bunches in 2019 if he stays healthy, and he could climb up the franchise leaderboards considerably along the way.
