Tyler Lockett leading the league in slot receiving yards

For the second year in a row, the connection between Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and receiver Tyler Lockett is among the hottest topics in the NFL.

Last year, Lockett and Wilson combined for a perfect 158.3 passer rating. While this year’s rating is about 20 points lower, the sheer volume between the duo has gone up considerably, in part because of the loss of wide receiver Doug Baldwin who retired after the 2018 season.

Lockett not only took over Baldwin’s role as the team’s leading receiver, he took over his spot on the field as well – a move that has clearly been successful as Lockett leads the NFL in receiving yards from the slot.

Lockett only has a tiny lead over Los Angeles’ Cooper Kupp – and Kupp already had his bye week – but it’s still a great sign that Lockett was able to seamlessly fill-in that slot role in place of Baldwin.

Of course, it helps that Seattle was able to replace Lockett’s production on the outside with rookie DK Metcalf, who himself is having a rookie season for the ages.

The addition of Josh Gordon will further add to Seattle’s strong receiving corps, giving Wilson a myriad of options to choose from.

However, his connection with Lockett will remain his top priority, as it should.
