Tyler Eifert’s latest injury update provides good news

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert sounds like he’s on the fast track to a comeback once more.

Eifert, who this year fought back against the injury-prone label, sounds like he is back to doing most of the important things ahead of OTAs.

“I’m doing pretty much everything,” Eifert said, according to Fletcher Page of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “There’s a couple things here and there but for the most part it’s all doing everything with the guys.”

After missing eight games in 2016 and 14 in 2017, Eifert went down with the broken ankle in Atlanta four games into last season. Despite the change to head coach Zac Taylor, the Bengals brought him back again on a one-year deal.

While the Bengals did select Drew Sample in the second round of the 2019 draft, they play different roles in the offense and should end up deployed together. Bengals coaches have said the rookie is much more than simple Eifert insurance.

In the past, Eifert’s injuries have been of a more serious nature relating to back issues and otherwise. This, by comparison, seems like a straightforward process and he sounds ready to go in May, which is good news for everyone.
