ATLANTA _ Tyler Chatwood pitched one of his best games since joining the Cubs, but a lack of clutch hitting and an eighth-inning meltdown by the bullpen proved costly Wednesday night in a 4-1 loss to the Braves.
Carl Edwards Jr. allowed a tie-breaking single to Ronald Acuna Jr. in the eighth and walked Tyler Flowers with the bases loaded, and Justin Hancock walked Johan Camargo with the bases loaded to give the Braves insurance.
The Cubs were 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Their lone clutch hit occurred on a two-out single by Kris Bryant in the fifth.
Chatwood walked only two but was pulled after 51/3 innings and 79 pitches.
Albert Almora Jr. robbed Flowers of a home run with a spectacular catch at the top of the center-field fence in the second.
Almora sprinted directly to the fence and caught Flowers' drive while jumping at the last possible moment while in stride.
