Tyler Boyd says new coaching staff has him running routes he hasn’t done since college

Count Cincinnati Bengals wideout Tyler Boyd among those players who love the way the new offensive-minded coach staff is working.

Boyd says the staff — headed up by Zac Taylor and offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, has him running routes he hasn’t had the chance to do since college.

“I run newer routes, different things I have never really ran in offenses that I’ve been in since college,” Boyd said, according to Sports Illustrated’s Kalyn Kahler. “I’m on a lot of routes that I know once they call it, I’m the first read, deep routes, over routes, choice routes. I know it’s me. I just have to win, that’s what makes it more fun.”

Boyd is coming off the breakout season and got rewarded with a big new contract but it isn’t a shock to see him among those Bengals players sharing nothing but praise for the new staff.

While things have been vanilla so far in the preseason, Boyd has still been the main focal point of the passing attack when he’s been on the field as A.J. Green has missed time.

If Boyd better meshes with this staff as opposed to the last one, last year might have only been the beginning.
