Tyler Baron, the country’s No. 3 strong-side defensive end, has included Ohio State in his Final five. From Tennessee, Baron has also included the Volunteers, Kentucky Wildcats, Oregon Ducks and Oklahoma Sooners.
Obviously Ohio State can more than punch its weight in recruiting, and Oregon and Kentucky have found success within the past few seasons. But with Baron being from Knoxville Cathloic high school, the University of Tennessee seems to be the odds on favorite to land the four-star’s services.
The Buckeyes currently have locked down one strong-side defensive end, three-star Ty Hamilton out of Pickerington. Baron would be a terrific edition to boost the position group and class as a whole.
Sadly though, 247 Sports has Baron on his way to Tennessee, giving his home state college a 100% chance of securing the 6-foot-5, 250-pound athlete. That said, he has yet to commit, and we’ve seen Ohio State swoop in and become a player in things that seem to be a foregone conclusion before.
Baron barely missed the Class of 2020’s top 100 at No. 101. He was noted as a top-five player from Tennessee and could be a beast for whomever he chooses.
It would be a surprise at this point if Ohio State was able to close the gap on Tennessee, so don’t get your hopes too high Buckeye fans.
