The announcement of who will be the next Los Angeles Lakers head coach is having the roll out of an album in the early stages of the internet era. Leak after leak has indicated that the Lakers will soon hire Ty Lue has their head coach but their have still not been reports of an official contract offer.
And now we have another leak surrounding Lue, this one coming from an unlikely source: his birthday cake. Some rumors surfaced on twitter of the cake but TMZ did a little extra digging to confirm that yes, it had a Lakers logo.
Ty laughed when the cake was brought out — but we’re told he never really said anything to dispute the insinuation he’s gonna be the next coach of the Lakers.
Most everyone in the Lakers orbit is assuming this is a done deal, but nothing is officially done until Lue signs on the dotted line. The other top candidate for the job, Monty Williams, took himself out of the running by accepting the job with the Phoenix Suns on Friday.
Lue coached LeBron James for nearly three seasons in Cleveland, which included an NBA Championship and three straight trips to the NBA Finals. Lue has a 128-83 (.607) record as a head coach.
