Txiki Begiristain says new Manchester City signing Rodri is a perfect fit for the club after he signed a five year deal at the Etihad.
Rodri joins for a club record £63m from Atletico Madrid, and finally solves City's long-term search for a defensive midfielder.
The Spanish international, 23, will now compete with Fernandinho and Ilkay Gundogan to anchor City's midfield, and Director of Football Begiristain says Rodri represents the ideal profile of player the club were searching for.
City had opted against signing a defensive midfielder last summer after missing out on Chelsea-bound Jorginho, as the club decided to wait for the perfect player to join.
Now, Pep Guardiola has got his man, as Rodri moves from Atletico after just one season at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Explaining why City broke their transfer record to sign Rodri, Begiristain explained: "Rodri has proven himself to be a hugely talented, young midfielder, who has all the attributes we are looking for.
“He works hard defensively, makes himself available to receive the ball and uses it well when in possession.
“He is a perfect fit for Pep Guardiola’s team and we are confident he will be a success.”
Rodri himself explained why City's recent success attracted him to the club.
“What City have achieved in the last two years has been amazing," he said. "I’m looking forward to being part of such a talented squad.
“It’s not just the titles they have won, but the way they have managed it, playing attacking football at all times."
