Twynholm youngsters enjoy village pumpkin trail for Hallowe'en

Youngsters in Twynholm were able to enjoy a slightly different Hallowe’en on Saturday despite the coronavirus restrictions.

Instead of the usual trick or treat visits to houses, they were able to dress up in all their spooky finery and follow a pumpkin trail around the village.

Following a map, hand drawn by Kelly Lapin, they searched for the pumpkins which each had a letter painted on them and then tried to unjumble the letters to discover the words “haunted house”.

Following publicity on social media, residents were forewarned – and had laid out the “treats” for the children as they passed.

The treats had been prepared up to 72 hours before, to avoid any infections, and there were some original ways for them to be collected, while observing social distancing, such as hanging them on a washing line!

Organiser Elaine Manson said she could not believe the generosity of the villagers and when some youngsters returned to her garden for their prizes, they had to ask for carrier bags to carry their treats.

She also thanked the Star, the Burnbank and the community council for their support and explained how many of the families who followed the trail had told her that they had enjoyed the evening more than the usual format.

Despite the dreadful weather earlier in the day,
then a power cut in Twynholm that blacked out all the street lights, everything turned out very well resulting in Elaine ending the evening as one exhausted but very happy witch.
