Twynholm Primary School choir defends Lindsay Singers Trophy at Galloway Music Festival

Twynholm Primary School choir successfully defended its Lindsay Singers Trophy at the Galloway Music Festival.

The school won the cup in 2018 and as defending champions had to fight off strong competition from Kirkinner and Port William.

The P3-P5 children impressed the judges with As One by Mark and Helen Johnson and Song of the Sea by Bruno Coulais to claim the silverware.

Class teacher and conductor Mrs Lynn Scott said: “We are over the moon. This is the second year running we have won the Lindsay Singers trophy. We are all very proud of the children.”

Twynholm chalked up another festival win when pupil Isabel D’haen claimed the Round Table Trophy in the grade 1-3 violin solos with her rendition of Sarabanda by Corelli.

Isabel, violin, and brother Thomas, piano, also scored well in the hotly-contested Caledonian Cheese Cup, which saw more than 20 entries.

Meanwhile, Creetown Primary returned from the festival with a clutch of awards, with P3’s Phoebe winning the prose reading quaich.

The Kirkcudbright Academy Choir delivered a superb performance to score an “outstanding” mark of 90 from the adjudicators to win the Galloway Music Festival Trophy.

The choir sang Go Down, Moses and This is Me.

Conductor and music teacher Hannah Gill said: “We are really lucky at the school because we have a lot of boys in our choir, which is quite unusual in Scotland. They were totally up for it.

“That’s the third year in a row that we have got an outstanding mark.”
